How refreshing to see the design and construction industry show true commitment to technology!
Check out Design and Construction Network‘s contest for the best website in our industry:
2009 Best Website Competition.
Congratulations to all of the finalists! A special Chicagoland shout-out goes to firms such as GREC Architects and SmithGroup, Clark Construction, and Woolpert–all with offices right here in Chicago.
There’s so much to say and assess. I loved the sor-tability of Clark Construction‘s site (by region and project type) and the outreach to new staff (with a big link entitled “My new career” right on the home page) by Skanska. Skanska also really drives home its commitment to sustainability (as do many of these sites).
On the ‘needs improvement’ list, I see that social media tools and references are notably absent on the majority of these sites. In addition, the design and aesthetic of many these sites do not translate well to mobile devices such as the iphone, my Eee PC (Netbook), and my blackberry pearl. In addition, I’d like to see more personalization such as video, links to webinars or presentations, etc.
Nonetheless, the fact that these firms cared enough to submit their sites is a positive sign for the AEC industry. Does this competition inspire you? Which site do you like best and why? What do you think is missing from any of these sites?
